Outlook 2007 Account Type grayed out. Is it possible to change to imap?

I just got a laptop in and the woman's story is not jiving with what I'm seeing. Her gmail account seems to have been set up as pop3, and supposedly was working fine for years, along with syncing with her Treo Phone.

My understanding is that gmail MUST work with imap if you want to use Outlook as your client.

Can anyone help me figure out why the account is stuck on pop3 (because the "Account Type" selector is grayed out? If she set the account up as pop3, how could it work with gmail?

The symptom I am seeing is that when set up as pop2, outgoing mail works but incoming does not.

Thanks for any help.

I appreciate your comment, but I just reset all security options (selecting, deselecting etc.) and it started working.
