Trixbox Dial By Name Recording

It is my understanding that with Dial By Name, it should play the voicemail Recorded Name for the particular extension if it is recorded. If not, it will spell out the phonebook name. Is this correct? I have recorded voicemail names for the extensions but only get the name spelled out. Can someone direct me on how to fix this?

How are you recording the names? You have to log into the voicemailbox, then go to mailbox options to record the proper name.

That is what I have done.  When I call extensions I get the recorded name.  However, I don't get the recorded name when using dial by name.

You've set it up correctly, then.

Unfortunately, Trixbox is a "works or it doesn't" kind of a platform.

Are you using the newest version? Have you tried different versions? Have you ensured that your context is the same everywhere?

I dont have the newest version as I had CDR issues with that.  I have one release back.  The contexts has been somewhat confusing to me and I don't fully understand them.  What should I look for in regards to the contexts?

1. See if the newest version has a correct dial by name directory functionality for debugging purposes. If it does, then we know the version you are using is just flat broken.
2. Contexts is kind of like security groups in Windows, except it is for phones and what they can dial (extensions). So, just make sure that all the phones, extensions (as appropriate) and voicemails are all in the same context. Otherwise, when DBND does the lookup, it won't find any recordings because the context is wrong.

Your comments indirectly led me to my issue.....I was using the Phonebook rather than the Directory.  Once I created a misc destination to the phonebook and added that to the IVR, it worked just fine.
