The closest thing (ready made) is jcalendar - part of the calendar module: http://drupal.org/project/calendar
With some effort, you can theme it to be displayed in a predefined div in your page.
This is theme dependent and need work!
Check this link http://rinatya.co.il/calendar/2010-07 on the 27th of the month) for a live demo of jcalendar capability (it's in Hebrew, but self explanatory.

You can use css to set the position and size of the div containing the data.
Another approach, in case you don't have many data items to display (and I think that this is the case with the linked site you gave), is to load all events into an array (values can be the actual dates), and use JavaScript to display the data, you can do it in (at least) 2 ways:
1. Use the  innerHTML property of the data div to set it's content on hover event.
2. Put the data of each day in a different div, and give this div an ID based on the day of month value. use on hover event to show this div and hide all others. (This is what is done the linked site).
