Hi, MY son's PS3 hit a supposed hard disk corruption. The PS3 recovery process did not work syaing that there was still disk or file corruption. I bought and installed a new 2.5 HDD - WD Scorpio Blue 500Gb and ran the recovery process. Still getting the same error. I have downloaded the 3.41 media from Sony on to a USB drive and used the Recovery Panel. Still no joy - says "The system software cannot be run correctly....Connect storage media that contains ..... 3.431 or later and then press START and SELECT ..." I have done this several times only to end up back at the same message. I have also tried 3 diffenent USB drives, 2 HDD's and several downloads. Has anyone encountered this before or know of the way forward?

Hi I don't have a ps3 myself but after reading quickly you stated you ran 3.41, however it asks for a newer version 3.431, did you try that or a newer version?

Also I read about the recovery panel, did you try all the options? (copied from sony forums)
-Restore Default Settings:
--Reset all system settings back to default.

-Restore File System:
--Checks for corrupt/missing system files.

-Rebuild Database:
--Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.

-Restore PS3 System:
--Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.

Hope this helps

Hi. It was my mis-type - the error messages said V3.41 and I downloaded and I ran V3.41 as located  from the Sony site. I have tried every option on the panel several times but always ended up back at the same error message. It gives the impression of doing something useful in that it says it is "preparing for update do not switch off" and proceeds to do a percentage complete counter. It rise 1% per sec to 50% then rolls to 100% quickly. Then it auto-re-boots back to the same error message! :(

Hi, Yes -WD5000BEVT 75ADRT0 500GB SATA. I have, this evening, been talking to Playstation UK Support. They are baffled by the error and cannot suggest anything other than what I have already been doing. They are sending me a replacement PS3.
