SCOM - Tracking multiple instances of of a running process

We have an applications server running custom code that utilizes Excel as part of a batch processing tasks.  We are currently running into problems where the Excel portions of the task are not closing correctly and as processing goes on throughout the day, there will eventually be 10+ instances of Excel.exe running in Task Manager which then starts to bog down the server.  While it is not a fix, I was wondering if it is possible to create an alert to notify IT if more than 5 instances of Excel are running through SCOM 2007?

Yes this is possible.
Open SCOM console | Authoring | management template | PROCESS
Create a monitor here and set the threshold to 0 - 5 and mark >5 as Critical.

I'm not in front of my console at the moment, but the process monitor has this ability. I just did it during a training session tracking more then 5 instances of notepad. If there was more then 5 it did a self cleanup and closed the alert.

Here is an example of what i am referring too.
Process Monitoring | Add monitoring wizard | Pick excel.exe | assign to a group and set your thresholds.
