A jQuery plugin for mobile web development on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and other forward-thinking devices.

Check the example here on a iPhone: http://jqtouch.com/preview/demos/main/#animations

I would use jqtouch, someone else has already done the work which means you can focus on how you use it.

There's some example code on this blog, I've not tested it, it seems like it should work though for your needs.
