Star Trek Online R&D points??

I've been playing STO for almost a month now and I haven't figured it all out yet.  My question is this: I travel to Memory Alpha and I have plenty of artifacts, etc, but when I go to buy some equipment it asks for the artifacts AND R&D points.  I can't seem to find out how or where I'm supposed to obtain these points.  Can anyone help me with this?

Never played the game but loved the movies. Am a fan of series 1 actually, never really got into any of the subsequent series. Last movie made was fantastic, looking forward to the second one

I may be a little older than you, but I was watching series one when I was a kid, so I'm a long time fan.  I will give you my capsule review of Star Trek:
Series one: The best, it started it all.  Get the new DVDs with the enhanced special effects and restored to original quality.
Series 2, Next Generation:  Very, very good, close to the first.
Series 3, Deep Space 9:  A little rocky a t first, but it became very good
Series 4, Voyager: The episodes went from very bad to very good, but you never knew which one was going to be bad or good. Definitely worth watching, though.
Series 5, Enterprise: Skip it, the worst. no true die hard fan liked this series.

Movies: the original crew, 1 to 6 I rate them top (best) to bottom (not so good):
2
4
3
1
6
5
The movies with the Next Gen crew started out good, but got progressively worse.

The new movie? Excellent! A great way to "reboot" the series back to the beginning.

PS - Also a must for Star Trek fans and sci-fi fans, watch Babylon 5.  I highly recommend it!  It's the greatest sci-fi series since Trek. Watch them in order because it's a 5 season story arc.  Once you watch a few shows and get into it, you will not stop watching until you've finished them all.

Also, Stargate SG-1, the best of ALL the Stargate TV series, great stuff!

Enjoy!

Nice summary :) Things I used to watch back when I was younger also but was a little after series 1 (which I think is the best series as well) was Blakes 7, Sapphire & Steel & Space 1999. I watch them now and they look so old but can keep watching ST 1.
If you want to add humour to scifi, watch this british comedy called Red Dwarf. Funny as hell.

Space 1999 I watched.  Blakes 7, always heard of but never saw. Sapphire, never heard of.  Definitely heard of Red Dwarf, but also never saw.  I'll have to check out some of these shows.  You need to check out Babylon 5.  If you want to email me, away from EE, let me know if I can give out an email address on EE.
