Please explain what this process is and what steps to take.  And what basic network configurations would be.

Have you heard of Gold Diagnostics if so, what is it exactly?

Gold diagnostics is an acronym for "Cisco Generic Online Diagnostics (GOLD)" Here is a page that talks about it: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps7081/products_ios_protocol_group_home.html

As for burn in, it is simply plugging your new equipment in for a couple days prior to putting it into production. This is to make sure some component doesn't fail right off the bat because it was damaged in shipping or something. Cisco does perform burn-in when the equipment is manufactured.

Hope this helps
