string of attachments on email from mac os

whenever an email is sent back from a mac a string of attachments is added to the attachment field.
you can double click the attachment and read some of the forwarders.  how do we eliminate this

the original email only had one file attached

Its mac mail.   A pc sends an email to a mac (only 2 do it)  When the mail comes back it looks like the attachment.  The safari email icons with the E are previous emails and they get atached to the return email.
