Droid X Phone randomly joins contacts into Linked Profile making many contacts unable to find.

My android phone, the Droid X has downloaded contacts to Google from my ACT program through Companion Link.  The download looks great and all contacts are viewable in Google.  However when these contacts (2600 of them) are downloaded to the phone I find that it randomly links contacts into what is called a linked profile.  For instance I have 15 contacts that are all linked to a contact with the first name Jim.  All of the other contacts have the first name Jim, but there are others with that first name that are not linked to this contact.  Further, my own contact is linked to several others.  This is not done with every contact, but many and if a contact is linked to another then I can only find the contact that Google sets up as the master and the other contact is not viewable by itself.  Of of the linked contacts info is shoved into the master contact record.  I want to turn off the auto link feature in Google or find a way to un link all contacts as I only want to link contacts that I choose to do this with.  Please advise.  Thanks.

The problem is actually a known problem now with Verizon and they are working with Google to resolve the issue in an update.  Thanks for the help.
