On Win 7 machine IE 8 frequently freezes

I have a machine i recetly built with Windows 7.  When I work on my hosted software IE8 freezes when I transition from one state to another in the software.  It causes me to completely shut down IE8 and restart it.  It happes 5-7 times a day.  I' have to use this hosted program all day and am frequently updating entries.

It is only when the other software is running?  Any chance you could tell us the software or at least what it basically does, especially the part when you say "transition from one state to another"?  Does it have an addon or other "object" that is part of IE8?Can you duplicate this on other machines with Windows 7?  You could try to reset IE8 and disable all addons.  Run it that way for a day to see if you experience a problem.bol

The software is a ticket system, Autotask, www.autotask.com.  I don't know how it links with IE, but we use it to get to the program and run it.  I'm sure it's heavily integrated with IE as it opens a new window when you create a ticket.  All IE freezes when I try to save a ticket, update it with a note or time entry.  Sometimes I can do this, but many times it freezes all the IE windows at once.

The software company says it doesn't know of any issues.

Does this usually occur when you have a few IE windows open?  If you only leave one open does it occur (i.e. always close existing ones before causing a new one to open)?  What about just a few (i.e. 2-3)?

IE can have issues when a number of windows/tabs are open.

I usually have 4-5 windows open.  When IE freezes, the software is opening a new window with content in it.

So I'm working in my software and I ask it to open a new ticket.  I complete the ticket, try to save it, and it freezes.

Which version of AutoTask are you using?  What edition?  Have you contact them to let them know about this?

One thought, as I looked at the software, is the "Go" version says it has a max number of users.  Depending on how they track it their software may see the windows as extra users.  Were you able to try it with just keeping one or two (at most) windows open at the same time?

We are using Autotask Pro.  Yes, Autotask has been alerted, but they have no solution since other users are able to work with Win 7 and IE8.

Yesterday he removed all addins and cleared temp files.  he said yseterday seemed to go ok.  If that worked, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the update.  Let me know how it works.  The recent versions of IE do provide a way to selectively disable addons so you may even be able to narrow down the cause and report that to the AutoTask makers.  Of course that can take some time and the other addons may not matter to you that much.  Let me know how it works or if you have any other questions on this.

Hi Scott,
I think your idea of disabling addons led my tech to this:
 I'm pretty sure it was setting it back to the IE8 defaults and then going thru the AT browser settings.

So far it's working.
