what is the benefit for SQL Server to name SID in varbinary instead of varchar?

It helps to manage uniqueness id when you have unlimited number of user. Its something bigger then GUID.

Biggest benefit is:

When you are moving SQL Server logins from one server to another and you want the logins to have the same SID between servers

varchar can take care of this, too, right? especially with 85 characters. (credit card is only 16 digits, and we trust it!)

If you remember, initially table use int as key, after that bigint (autonumber), after that it increase the limit and become GUID etc.. similarly now for biggest database SID is secured and manageable. Isnt it?
