what is the benefit for SQL Server to name SID in varbinary instead of varchar?

Biggest benefit is:

When you are moving SQL Server logins from one server to another and you want the logins to have the same SID between servers

varchar can take care of this, too, right? especially with 85 characters. (credit card is only 16 digits, and we trust it!)
You are correct, but SID is more secure.
