Right now we have two users with Fireworks CS4 and one user with Fireworks 8.  The problem is that when the CS4 users open up a fireworks 8 file, they are prompted to maintain appearance or update text. So we are going to upgrade the fireworks 8 user.

If that user gets Fireworks CS5, will we have a similar problem between CS4 and CS5 versions? Or are the file formats identical\fully compatible?

There was a major format change between Fireworks 8 and the CS versions involving the text engine and the way that it formatted text. You should not see those differences between CS4 and CS5.

That's what I figured but I just wanted to make sure there weren't any other differences in the file format that would cause a similar issue.  Hopefully just the APP changed and the file format is the same.

I have the same issue where I work. I am constantly opening up old files and getting the annoying "refresh text" screen because the last time I looked at the file I didn't save it and it reverted back to the original.

Kind of like finding a pen that doesn't write and throwing it back in the drawer.
