Outlook 2010 Sent Items Missing in Date/Conversation View

I am using Outlook 2010 on XP Pro SP3 with an exchange 2008r2 server.  I am trying to use the date conversation view but there seems to be an issue with sent items.

I have the include other folders checked and everything looks like you would expect except that if an item was sent later than the latest item in the conversation that is in the inbox then the item in the sent items folder does not show up in the conversation.

Sent items prior to the latest item in the inbox are shown.

Anyone else seen this or have a solution?

Wow!  I'm amazed at the mounting hate users have for the conversation view!  They say hate it and leave it until MS fixes it.  I'm not sure what the fix is and will monitor the question to see what other experts say.

I love date/conversation view but missing the fact that I have just replied can cause embarrassment.  I recently replied to the same email one day apart and the guy says, "I got your last one, give me a day or two to plan this..."  Made me look impatient.

OK.  The plot thickens.  I have been researching this for a day or two off and on and herer is what I find.  If the message in the sent items folder that is later than the one in my inbox is a reply to a local exchange member then it is there in the conversation view.

If it is a reply to an external user it is not in the conversation.  Maybe it is related to message IDs used by exchange?

I don't have Office 2010 so I can't back up this information.  Is there any information in this link that helps?
