"This project will wrap ASP.NET applications within SharePoint framework" is a quote on a job description.

Could someone please explain to me what this means exactly?  I use ASP.NET and have been slightly explosed to SharePoint.  I have used SharePoint to upload files, etc.  I have heard it offers "Web Parts" may be the name.

Please give me an overview of what this project may entail based on the quote abouit it I used as the subject of this post.

Thanks,

Web parts is one of  sharepoint terms, you can custome web parts by creating asp.net appliation, but firstly reference sharepoint.dll or sharepoint framework in your asp.net project application.

Cool.  What kinds of things can Web Parts offer that an ASP.NET application does not already have?  Or does it involve making your ASP.NET integrated with a SharePoint application?

yeah, firstly, you must download SP package from Microsoft Website to make your vs.net support create sharepoint web parts application. Then you can create customized web part for sharepoint application using asp.net C#.
Last ,compile the web parts to generator web parts Dll files, and Add it to sharepoint website  by Sharepoint's  settings
