Websphere + Java + CLOSE_WAIT connections

Hi All,
     Giving support to a Banking product. During high network traffic time, we are getting CLOSE_WAIT connections count in the log from 1 to 100.  
     So, how to avoid this CLOSE_WAIT requests in the queue. Any permanent solution for this issue.
     Java + Web sphere6.1 + unix
