Can't get Peachtree 2011 to link with Act 2009

I am having issues getting Peachtree 2011 and Act 2009 to link together.  I am opening Act, from the Peachtree menu and go through the setup wizard.  In the wizard, I select my Peachtree database and it prompts me once for my PT credentials and hit OK.  It is supposed to prompt a second time but doesn't.  If I hit next, finish, it does nothing, if I hit cancel the second box will appear and nothing gets linked.  Any ideas?

have tried:
-waiting hours for the second box to appear
-uninstall reinstall everything
-happening on all clients except one
-if I log in as the one that works on a different machine the two are already linked  (think this is normal)
-tried changing permissions in act from Manager to administrator
-fix and repair act database
-I have 5 licenses and it shows 5 in Act (shows 7 from the manage users section though)

If that doesn't work, try removing the one user and see if you can add other.

There's also an option in ACTDIAG to remove the accounting links... if you had old data, this might that allow you to create the links again

If those don't work, post the error screen shot and I'll ask a PT expert... I'm skilled in ACT!, but haven't played with PT

PS: The manager Users section in ACT! allows you to create as amany users as you like, but you can only make Active the number of users as you have licenses.

Have you checked in Define Users to make sure Accounts Permission is added?

Try using ACTDIAG to remove the link and then re-create it with one of the other users first, then try the the one that worked

I do have enough licenses.  It also looks like I have permissions as well.

What version of actdiag should I run, i can only find 2006 versions of it.

2006 version? They would be called ACT8DIAG (note the 8, which was dropped in 2007 (9.0) or 2008 (10.0)

What full build of ACT! (from Help | About)?
Do you have the Accounting Link permission for ALL users?

I was told that only Sage ACT! 2010 and Sage ACT! 2011 will integrate with Sage Peachtree Quantum 2011.

Not sure if this might be the cause? If so, you may need to upgrade ACT!

Act 2009 will link with PT 2011.  There is a nifty char here:
link http://www.peachtree.com/productsServices/peachtreeAddOns/act/?WT.mc_id=RD_peachtree.com/contactmanager

Act 2009 v 11.1.183.0 Hotfix 1

Do you have the Accounting Link permission for ALL users?  The screen shot above is for one user that cannot link.  I am not sure what you are asking or what I am missing.  It did work in Peachtree 2010.

I don't know if this helps:

I created a brand new user for Act, then tried to log in and it gave me an out of license error.

Hmmmm ... that sounds like the PT licenses

How many PT licenses do you have?
If you remove the one that connects, can you connect another user?

Can you post a screen shot of the error? Might help to see if it's PT or ACT!

I own enough licenses of everything and this was working before we upgraded PT and act.  I am going to reboot the server tonight to clear all licenses that may be in use.

Could you be so kind as to pass on a link for the ACTDIAG?  I want to try that after hours too.

Part of ACT! (in the Program Files\ACT folder)

In Windows, just go: Start | Run | ACTDIAG - it should run

See: http://kb.sagesoftwareonline.com/cgi-bin/sagesoftwareonline.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=19642

Make sure you backup BOTH ACT! and PT first...

Reboot didn't help.  Ran the actdiag but I don't see any options that I think would help the cause.  I don't see where it removes the accounting links.

Have a look about 2/3 of the way down the link in my last post

Just an update:
Bought Act support and they said that all my users had become corrupt except 1.  Deleting the users and recreating them one by one fixed the issue.

Now all the thousands of links between Peachtree and Act are GONE!  All for upgrading from PT 2010 to 2011.

All your users? Sounds very odd...

If you have a backup of the original, I'd try one at a time... or, it should be possible to have them repaired without losing the data with some consultants I know.

Did you lose the links when you did the ACTDIAG function? If so, go back to a backup before that and try and re-create the users.

PhilonatorownerAuthor Commented:
I never actually did anything with ACTDIAG, I let the ACT support tell me what to fix.  They also said that the link is known to break all your links--  I can almost guarantee that is not in any of the upgrade instructions.

I backed up everything but, the links part is not backed up (that is what Act said)

I think the link is written by the PT guys rather than ACT!... you might try asking them?

PhilonatorownerAuthor Commented:
I did at first because I do have Peachtree support.  They said it always works and when it doesn't work there is something wrong with Act.

They proved this to be true with the users not linking, but the jury is still out on the links.

I would contact an ACT! Consultant in your area (call some to find one who has also done PT - or even ask Sage to recommend one)... if you get one that does both, they maybe know if it is common and maybe of a way to restore the links (if possible) or at least back them up in case it happens again

The North American ACC list is at www.act.com/acc

But you might start with some the show up in this search:

After much circling with Act support.  The real solution was to run the actdiag on the server, break the links, then recreate them (sync).  The 3rd act support guy reviewed the case and couldn't unerstand why the first two agents didn't try it.  Thank you for the help!

Glad you got it working... I appreciate that many of the ACT! support guys might not know PT... but they should pass the questions about it to someone who does
