Remote Web, OWA, and Exchange not working after server loss of power

After shotdown email and internet configuration fail. replaced router, but it will not configure...  several things went down at once. Trying to get all up.

I can ping ip and server.com/exchange, just can not receive email.

At this time all local functions seam to work.  Users can send/receive e-mails.

However, OWA and RWW cannot be reached internally or externally.

I have re-ran CEICW ans it is failing at Firewall and E-mail config!

Any clues woudl be helpfull!
I have also found the following errors/event ids:

A non-delivery report with a status code of 5.3.5 was generated for recipient rfc822;Administrator@127.0.0.1 (Message-ID  <90C92E24C10046AEBBA3DA376C6BB284@Redco.local>).
Causes: A looping condition was detected. (The server is configured to route mail back to itself). If you have multiple SMTP Virtual Servers configured on your Exchange server, make sure they are defined by a unique incoming port and that the outgoing SMTP port configuration is valid to avoid looping between local virtual servers.
Solution: Check the configuration of the virtual serverÆs connectors for loops and ensure each virtual server is defined by a unique incoming port.

Install it
Run a health scan

you can also export the report and Copy paste the errors here
I have downloaded and updated the tool. I have run the following scans with the attached results:

Health Check had several issues. I am starting to look into now, but any guidance would be helpful.
ExBPA.Exchange-Scan--08-31-10.20.xml

Can you export the health check as a HTML file instead of an xml please and then upload it.

thanks
a) if i have to pick one - it will start with no full backup of database.

Go to the :\drive where exchange is installed and see how much free space it has.

Please take a full exchange backup and flush logs.
What backup software are you using.

Also
run this
www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/
Test for inbound and outbound SMTP connectivity and post back errors here.

Many a times, SBS issues go away with a restart - so I'd go with that option first before making any changes.

thanks
I have restarted twice today, and got exchange working...

However remote is still out.  https://remote.xxxxx.com/exchange  and remote.xxxxx.com (For RWW) are down.

I can run RDP to local IP internally, but not from external ip address or remote.xxxxx.com

I believe the router config is currently one of the (main) problems, but since I can not get CEICW to run without errors, I can only make manual adjustments and I am not sure they are complete/correct.

I will follow advise, and welcome more!

What is "best practice" for manually opening/forwarding ports for access to RWW, OWA, and exchange?
Login to your router
See if the following ports are forwarding to exchange LAN IP
25
80
443

Whats your fqdn ?
go here
www.mxtoolbox.com
enter your domain name
The first MX listed is your fqdn
Assuming it is - mail.domain.com

can you go to
https://mail.domain.com/exchange > externally

remote is still out
> Can you ping remote.domain.com - internally / externally.

Can you run this also - SBS BPA
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3874527A-DE19-49BB-800F-352F3B6F2922&displaylang=en

fqdn = exchange.redco1.com

https://remote.redco1.com/exchange  does not work externally or internally

can not ping remote.redco1.com externally, but it works internally

can not ping exchange.redco1.com externally, but it works internally

25, 80, 443 (as well as others per MS firewall instructions are being forwarded. (image attached)

ports.bmp
a) do you have same internal and external DNS ?

b) This is your MX
http://www.mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=mx:redco1.com

https://exhcange.redco1.com/exchange doesnt work externally.
We may have to create default exchange virtual directories > will post back about that.

c) you cannot ping remote.redco1.com externally because there is no DNS entry for that.
You will have to login to your webbased DNS manager and create an entry for that.

There is (or was) a DNS entry at our ISP for remote.redco1.com pointing to our static IP (of router) taht is forwarding to the local IP of the server.

I have a call into the ISP to re-verify....    it was in place and was working until yesterday.

Also, I will check if ping is turned off at router...
I have run nslookup for both  remote.redco1.com and exchange.redco1.com from outside location on another ISP network, and both point to ip of router (which should forward traffic to local ip of sever [see above])

So this goes back to either router or server is blocking access to RWW and OWA.....   ....any ideas?  This is starting to ruffle feathers!!!!  Thank you in advance!!!

I disabled filtering of anonymous ping requests at router, and I can ping both

   remote.redco1.com
   exchange.redco1.com

Can you check where do you stand on RWW and OWA
Can you get there ?

Go to SBS server
go here

https://localhost/exchange
https://companyweb/

let me know.
Neither of those links works from the SBS server, I get

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage....
start > run > services.msc

is IIS admin service started ?

start > run > inetmgr

is /exchange directory present under
\sites\SBS web applications.

Can you restart the server once and lets see if that restores the links back.

Otherwise we can reset the OWA virtual directories.
Use Method-1 here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883380

IIS is started and i have restarted over last two days hoping this was problem
But websites are stopped
ok to summarize.
a) your RWW / OWA not working after power issue.
b) Exchange is working mail flow is ok.
c) You ran a scan for BPA - most of the issues were performance related issues - barring the backup issue (which shouldnt affect)
d) IIS admin service is started and working.
e) You restarted the server twice and it didnt change anything.

You mentioned if you go to https://localhost/
You get cannot display webpage.
That means - either IIS is not working / or the bindings for default port 80 are off.

Can you recheck what happens when you go to

https://localhost
https://companyweb
from sBS machine itself - not from other workstation.

Right click and default website and start.
Right click on companyweb and start.

I did not see exchange directory... I will post screen shot
Here is IIS screenshot

Is it working ?
Hows it going ?
sorry, I'm trying to get available HD space...  ...updates shorty...
On \softwaredistribution do you delete all folders?

Could not start websites...  "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

I will restart IIS and try again.
yes all
those are download windows updates.
Dont worry, when your backup finishes you will have enough time to download all of those once again.

Restart server
try to restart those 2
default web sites
sbs web applications
Does exchange backup stop send/receive?
no it doesnt stop send/receive
We usually start backups after hours around 7 and let it run overnight.

what backup software are you using ?
Please ignore previous question... I have enough disk space to operate now, and not worried for a few, I am running backup...  ...I will restart server on completion and attempt to restart websites....

I am off for the day. post back here if you have any. will check back later.
I have both MS Backup and a batch file backing up to external hard drive...
NO GOOD @ batch file backup.
use ntbackup if you dont have anything else.

Use the guide here
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2003-Backup-Restore-NTBACKUP.html

You need to flush the logs. otherwise it wont work.

Thank you for your assistance!!! Hopefully this will resolve on restart...
I meant NT (not MS) backup earlier.. ..however the separate exchange folder tree was not included. it is now and i have backed it up separately.

To flush the logs, would you use the following process?

1. Manually dismount the mailbox store and the public store so that all the logs are played into the databases.
2. Open a command prompt and change your directory to c:\program files\exchsrvr\bin folder (again, assume all default installation paths)
3. type ESEUTIL /MH "C:\PROGRAM FILES\EXCHSRVR\MDBDATA\PRIV1.EDB" and enter to check the consistency of the database.
4. Confirm that the database is in a CLEAN SHUTDOWN state and logs required is 0-0!
5. type ESEUTIL /MH "C:\PROGRAM FILES\EXCHSRVR\MDBDATA\PUB1.EDB" and enter to check the consistency of the database
6. Confirm that the database is in a CLEAN SHUTDOWN state and logs required is 0-0!
7. Once you have confirmed this, use windows explorer to browse to c:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata (the path to the log files). Do not delete them yet! create a sub-folder, cut and paste all E**.Log files into that path, including the E00.CHK file.
8. go back into ESM and mount the databases. Once they have mounted successfully, you can go ahead and delete the sub-folder with the log files.

Or is there a more preferred method?
None of the above
When you use the backup wizard in exchange, select first storage group etc and select normal backup
Flush logs
Verify data after backup
It should be there in one of the options

Check the guide above
As I understand it a normal NT backup will flush the log files. There was no change in available HD space  before/after mailbox store backup... ...does that mean backup process did not flush the logs?

In your /exchsrvr folder
There is
Mdbdata
Check if logs are there
Or open exchange
Navigate to server name
Right click on database and see where the logs are stored
I am outside can't give you screenshots
\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA folder there are 5 *.log files 4 @5120KB and 1@1024KB

I have to hit the road but will be back on to server remotely in about 30 mins...
