I am very much a Linux newbie. I am running a server with Centos release 5.5 which has PHP Version 5.1.6 installed on it with '--disable-dom' set at compile time. I want to change this and from what I have read I can achieve this by installing php-xml.

Looking at various pages on the web I am sea how I go about doing this from the command line. Could someone help me through the steps?

Also, make sure that you run yum with root privileges (either sudo or su to root first)

simoesp: thanks I'll give it a try.

flubbard: also thanks. If I'm logged in as root then I don't need to use sudo or su. Is that correct?
