Hello,

I have a windows 7 64bit pro machine with office 2007 on it. i receive the error (cannot start microsoft office outlook. cannot open the outlook window). I have run the outlook.exe /resetnavpane serveral times to fix the issues but it always comes back. I have even recreated the profile and did not use the old PST files to see if that was an issue.
on the old pst files i ran scan pst and it always came back had errors but it never fixed it as i ran it over and over again so i used a new profile with no pst being imported over to that profile.

why does this happen and what is the perm fix for this.

Thanks Folks

Do you have any 3rd party plugins installed in Outlook? Any calendar addons, or even anti-spam?

One of these could be the issue. Try disabling them and see if it still happens.

I have had the same problem with my machine(Win 7 Pro 64-bit + Office 2007). I found on my system it happens when I shutdown or restart windows with outlook open. Since I started closing outlook before restarting or shutting down I haven't had the issue occur again.

Amnonm, i have done that and that is put in the question asked that does not work. But Jamietoner i might try your advice as she does leave her email open when she walks away from her desk and her pwoer settings might be kicking in and causing the profilename.xml to get corrupt which is the issue at hand. just trying to make it stop doing is the key.

to the scotsman,
I turned off avast checking mail for outgoing and turned off all the features of IM and P2P as well since they do not use those items at their enviroment. But they use gmail for their email solotions. its a gmail pop account but no one else has this issue in their vista machines. and outlook turned off one program already as it knows it causes issues.

I suggest to backup the OST and PST files also the rules and just clear the folder under :
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Ps if this helps you folks any this is a issue well known with windows 7 and outlook 2007 with the navigation pane getting corrupted but yet microsoft does not acknowledge a perm fix for it just the resetnavpane tool command.

I found a fix that seems to work for this issue, Disable all sleep features. When the system goes into sleep mode or in a screensaver mode while outlook is open it causes this problem. Since i corrected the issue it has happen only once since that last time i was onsite.
