cisco 2900 x series changing username or removing an account

I wish to remove the reference to username 'pbutler' on my cisco 2900 switch.
We have long since lost the password for this account and I would like to rename or replace it with admin and associate it with a new password. I can access the switch using the console just fine it is only when I try to telnet to it and it prompts for username/password where I run into trouble so if I can edit the config file to remove/replace this account we should be able to remotely administer this appliance.

enable the router when logged on at the console type:
enable

enter the configure terminal mode on the router by entering
config t

create a new username
username admin priv 15 password yournewpassword

to remove the old username type:
no username pbutler
