DPM SERVER 2010 SMTP AUTHENTICATION

Have DPM 2010 in an environment without Exchange.  Previously ran DPM 2007 and had no issues sending email alerts/notifications.  When I try to configure external SMTP in DPM 2010 it won't allow me to enter the username and password credentials properly to authenticate on external smtp server.

I have in DPM 2010 - Management - Options - SMTP server this:
SMTP server name: bb-mx01
port: 25
From : DPM.bb-bkp02@mycompany.com  - fake email, nonexisting in Exchange 2010
username: MYDOMAIN\backup
Password: password of this user

MYDOMAIN\backup is in Administrators group
And it is working

We do not have an exchange server and here is what my setup would be.

SMTP = smtpout.secureserver.net
Port = 25
From = dpm@mycompany.com

user = (This is where I have the issue.  I have to authenticate to the smtoout.secureserver.net)

If we use the format MYDOMAIN\Username that won't authenticate to the smtoout.secureserver.net

I need to use

username = dpm@mycompany.,com
password =

Thanks
