How can I avoid Domino agents running immediately after saving them?

I have a Domino database with several agents doing lengthy import and archiving jobs. I try to create a decent time schedule so that the agents won't collide and that they won't run the same time as the backup. Recently, I have found that every time I change the time an agent should run and save it, it starts running immediately!. This is very annoying for our users who suffer from bad performance when I have to change the time an agent should run.

I know that this is the way it works when you enable an agent, but it shouldn't run when you simply change the schedule, should it?

When you save an agent, it will run immediately if it's trigger has passed for the current day.  For example, if the agent is set to run at 1AM and you save it at 8AM, it will run immediately.  If the agent is set to run at 9PM and you save it at 8AM, it should not run until 9PM.  So you could work around this by changing you schedule.

Another option is to store the run time in a profile document, then have your agent set to run every 10 minutes.  In the agent, check the profile document to determine if the agent should actually do anything or just exit.  This way, you can save the agent anytime you want since you're really handing the timing yourself inside the agent.

Yes, of course. I should have thought of that myself. Thanks for your help.

If a scheduled agent is edited (for example, enabled, modified, saved, or pasted), it will usually run immediately if it has missed its scheduled run. This is true for agents scheduled monthly and weekly. It is partially true for agents scheduled daily.

If a agent scheduled to run daily misses its scheduled run because it was disabled, it will run if it is enabled within half an hour of the scheduled run. However, If a scheduled agent is saved, pasted, or modified, it will run immediately if it has missed its schedule.
