Help with removing a pesky browser redirect.

Grettings, EE

I need a hand in removing a piece of redirect malware that my usual removal tools can't seem to find.  I decided to give HiJackThis a try to see if I can spot what's wrong.  I've never run this tool before, and I'm looking for a little help in deciphering the output.

Please see the HiJackThis log below (I edited the log with the hopes of protecting certain network information).  I suspect the line 'R3 - URLSearchHook'.  Anybody have thoughts on this one?

Thanks for your help!

Eric

P.S.  Labor Day weekend is about to start up around here, so I may not be able to respond until Tuesday.  Thank you for your patience.

To clean and to check if you system is clean do following:

Run malwarebytes in Safe Mode with Networking and update it before running a full system scan:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

Then try HitManpro to make sure anything which might be left behind is clean:
32bit
http://dl.surfright.nl/HitmanPro35.exe

64bit
http://dl.surfright.nl/HitmanPro35_x64.exe

If issue is not resolved by these tools try TDSSKiller:

Your help has saved me hundreds of hours of internet surfing.

I'd start with 'R3 - URLSearchHook'.  I recognize most of the rest of them.  I use Sysinternals Autoruns.exe to see what else is being loaded at startup.  http://www.sysinternals.com/

lines 60, 61, 111 and 112 are problems.

does this happen in only internet explorer, or only firefox, or both?
Jonvee

TDSSKiller should remove the browser redirect, as already suggested by rockiroads.
Method:   Download the file TDSSKiller.zip and extract it into a folder
Execute the file TDSSKiller.exe.
Wait for the scan and disinfection process to be over.
Close all programs and press “Y” key to restart your computer.

Useful TDSSKiller tutorial:
http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684

You could also check the Windows HOSTS file
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc <--- look in "etc" folder for the hosts file
Open it in Notepad.
There is usually only the one entry and that's for localhost to 127.0.0.1.
Sometimes you'll see your anti-virus software populating the file, but that's okay.

Incidently even if you have a clean Hijackthis log it doesn't necessarily mean your system is clean, rootkits and some other Malware can hide from HijackThis.
Also please see this article>
https://www.experts-exchange.com/Virus_and_Spyware/HijackThis/A_3178-HijackThis-reports-missing-files-on-64-bit-Systems.html

If unresolved, have a look at your IE add-ons & consider removing anything suspicious.
