Apple keyboard not allowing me to copy multiple Excel rows

I have Excel 2007 running on an iMac via VM Fusion.  When I want to select multiple rows (by usually left clicking mouse with control key held down) I can't with the Apple wireless keyboard.

I can do a multiple selection with the shift key but this is only good for adjacent ranges.

How is this possible with the excellent Apple wireless keyboard?

I guess it should be either Command or Option key instead of Control, as on usual keyboard

Command didn't work either, that was my obvious assumption at first due to the command button acting in a similar way to control on other things.
It might be a problem with VMWare drivers and the keyboard.  See if there are updated drivers for that and then try it.  Also, can you select multiple rows in MacOSX alone not using VMWare?
