There is a good post here: http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/77570 sadly it goes on to say:

"Finally got this fixed. I had posted on the MS partner forums as well, but the best suggestion was making a call to Microsoft. I created a support incident and Microsoft removed the SharePoint databases and reinstalled SharePoint. They also used an MS-only tool to reconfigure SharePoint for SBS."

I think this maybe a call to Microsoft.

even if MS guys can help you in this request, but will take a long period on it with less luck.
and MS has a repair guide that may help you in this situation:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd540850%28WS.10%29.aspx

another article mentioned the procedure at;

How to Reinstall SharePoint 3.0 on SBS2008
http://sbits.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-to-reinstall-sharepoint-30-on.html

but i think you can thorw the issue out and we can help you in the issue more effectivity.

Thanks guys - looks like it took a combination of these to work.

The final part of the puzzle was http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd560621(WS.10).aspx

But after re-running the WSS install in the SBS dir then running thoug this it appears to be working again now.

Cheers,

Chris
