How to enlarge the TimeOut for loading Outlook 2007 plugins

Our Outlook loads 2 plugins: one from Dynamics CRM 4.0 and one from d.Style (for organizing our signatures). This last one often fails to load and generates the following error:

microsoft.visualstudio.tools.applications.deployment.clickonceaddindeploymentmanager.getmanifests(TimeSpan timeout) at
microsoft.visualstudio.tools.applications.deployment.clickonceaddindeploymentmanager.installaddin(()

My question is: how can i give Outlook more time to load the plugins?

Hi PDB,

Thanks for the thought. I looked into it but it really concerns the connection between Outlook and Exchange, not the plugin loading behaviour of Outlook.

Regards, Hans
You won't know for sure until you try.  Communications between the client and server are interwined.  The client (Outlook) looks to the settings on the server for many of its settings.

Hi PDB,
Thanks for the follow up. do you perhaps know a GPO tha can do that? i've looked for it but couldn't find it. As the problem occurs randomly, i can only see if it works if i can set this option for all users to see if all problems stay away!

hi Hans,
Don't know why you would need a GPO; the setting is on the Server;  you just need admin authority  change the setting.  If it doesn't work, you can always change the setting back to what it was.

Hi PDB,
In the article you refrenced it detailed about Outlook settings, therefor i was looking for a GPO. Where can i find thid in Exchange (2003)? I've looked around but can't imagine where to look for.

Hi Hans,
You are correct...my apologies....the setting is adjusted via outlook. How many workstations is outlook /plug-ins loaded on? I will have to look into how to adjust that setting programmatically and get bck to you.

Hi PDB,
Never mind! It's concerning about 40 workplaces (through terminal server).

Download the Outlook 2007 group policy templates per this link and see if there one you can use:

Dear PDB,

More research learned that this plugin crashes, often directly after starting Outlook and long before the default 30 seconds time-out you mentioned. It appears that some certificate-checking mechanism in the VSTO might cause the problem. One other important detail: the CRM 4 plugin doesn't crash at all, problably there's something not quite shibber in this VSTO code. However, influencing time-outs might solve the problem.

Dear PDB,

This sounds very interesting! I will test this, this week by various users and let you know the outcome.

Dear PDB,

Thanks for your help up to so far! As you pointed out a new direction (the loading of non-MS plugins), i'll close this thread here and reward that. The problem how ever still exists...

Regards, Hans.

It's not the solution but perhaps a good direction.
