mac mail and exchange connectivity
Environment: Exchange 2003 SP2
Apple Macbook pro 10.5
Mac Mail
Sonicwall TZ
--
I have a sales person who travels all over the country.
Issue - he cannot send emails, without changing smtp server address at all these airport locations / hotels etc. This is a bit of a bother.
Configuration:
Client - macmail
connected using POP3/SMTP to exchange server external fqdn.
I tried configuring mac mail to use exchange but it didnt work.
Tried configuring a free vpn client client for mac to connect to sonicwall - not much luck with that. VPN will fail in second phase auth.
My questions are:
a) Can I configure macmail to use exchange server for a travelling sales person. I am not sure if RPC/HTTPS will work - but I am open.
b) Any free / paid VPN clients out there which can connect with sonicwall TZ series.
If you need clarifications please post back.
thanks

MacMail does not play nice with Exchange Server. Your sales person needs to be using Microsoft Entourage, which is part of MS Office for Mac. Does he have that installed? If so, set it up as per the instructions here:

@strung
told him that. He doesnt want to pay $450 just to use outlook.
he got a home/student edition of entourage but the outlook version doesnt let you download mails from exchange server.
He is one of our clients.

Testing VPN tracker - lets hope that works.
SBS 2003 comes with licences for Entourage 2004. You should be able to get free media by phoning the Microsoft if you do not already have it on your SBS CD's.

I am afraid i have exchange 2003 standard. Not SBS - at this client location.
The version of Entourage that came with home and student version of Office 2004 will work. Maybe your sales person can get a copy from eBay.

Also, you could try the free Windows RDC client for Mac:

Have you tried changing the SMTP port that is being used to submit messages to your Exchange server?

Maximus thanks for that idea.
I considered against it - I have a network for 30/40 users connected to this...and the issue is isolated to just 1 mac user.
I'd rather go with a VPN based solution at this point than change default ports on exchange.
