Excel services - Access denied

Having a play with excel services and kpis.
Added a trusted file location and then added a excel web access web part to a new page. No problem.
Now I am trying to create a "kpi list"
I supply the url for the workbook but when I click the button to specify the cells/range and kpi values I get an access denied problem.
The trusted location is a UNC location where domain users have full control.

Sooo I uploaded the document to a document library and put that in my web part, like the other it displays fine.
So I go back to create a kpi list and have exactly the same problem.

What have I missed? I am farm/collection admin and the site creator.
The excel file (both the unc one and the one I uploaded) was created by myself.

this could be a security issue and even if you have defined your  UNC as trusted location, Sharepoint tries to impersonate and doesn't use  your personal account information to access the UNC.

Can you check out the following:

1. Go to Central Administration > Application Management > Create or Configure this Farm's Shared Services
2. Go to Excel Services Setting
3. Select File Access Method > Process Account

Process account sets "impersonation" by default.  Select "Process Account" and see how it goes.

I don't see anything about excel services in that area (see image).
If I click through to either of these links I see web app settings but nothing about Excel services.

Found where (I think) you meant under SharedServices1
I change it to use the process acount, went back and still got access denied
are you getting any specific event log and ULS errors related to this issue?

I have this in the windows event viewer for excel calculation services
Failed to load 'http://xxxx/BI/Documents/Weekdays.xlsx' with error: 'The workbook is not in a trusted location.'.
[Session: 22.42eFkhBEsI9sJEN6IIeklK90.5.en-US5.en-NZ73.-0720#0000-04-00-01T03:00:00:0000#+0000#0000-09-00-05T02:00:00:0000#-0060

I have added it as a trusted location and am able to show the spreadsheet in a web part so I'm not sure why it's complaining?
