Run AutoCAD 12 on Windows 7 -64bit OS?
I am trying to secure older AutoCAD software suitable for pennyless engineering student in Africa.
Earlier I provided him with a new ASUS portable computer with Windows 7 64-bit. Would this machine be capable of running AutoCAD 12 which a has been offered me as a donation? What do I need to provide for AutoCad or ArchiCad software to work on his computer?

R12 is a 16-bit application, so no, it wouldn't work out of the box on x64. You can try downloading Virtualbox (http://www.virtualbox.org/) and then installing Windows XP into Virtualbox, then install Autocad from there.

So, if I understand correctly, the 16 bit AutoCad will run in Windows XP which is 32-bit. Correct?, but will not run in Windows 7 at least not the 64-bit version.
Your suggestion of using Virtual Box + XP as an intermediary is very clever and would seem to be a workable solution. Because Internet access is very expensive and time limited (1/2 hour per day) to students in East Africa, I'll have to download virtualbox here and put it on disk and find a copy of XP to load as well..
