Increase fonts on mac easily (like control + scroll wheel in windows)

Hi,  I have switched from a PC to a mac for my work computer and am looking for a shortcut similar to what I have in windows.    On the windows machine, if I wish to quickly increase the font size in IE,  firefox, MS Office, and various other apps,   I just need to press control and then scroll up on the wheel of the mouse.  Similarly, control and scrolling down reduces the font.

My question is this:  is there anything like this for mac?   All I can find is the screen zoom but that make text/images blurry and makes navigating difficult due to the screen jumping around.

Any advice?

Command + and Command - will increase or decrease font sizes in some applications. Command 0 will restore original font size.
