We have a machine that has almost 30,000 files renamed with a tilde after the file extension.

The text after the tilde is always 8 alpha numeric upper case.
All the files were renamed on the same day.
The original files are there and the server is functioning.
Running SFC /SCANNOW aparently finds issue with some of the files on the system.

Very odd. Any ideas?

That is an Odd one.  What is the OS / version of the server?

Are you doing any DFS on the share / files?  What files are renamed?  All of the OS files, or just under a user share, or all shares?

No but we do have a Double Take sync between that server and our DR site.

Ah, it could be a Double Take thing.  It would make a local copy of the file and tag it with an ID as it works to Sync the files between the servers.  I used this tool some 6-8 years ago, but not recently.

Is it in ALL folders on the drive?

I would check the DT support site, or contact their support staff.  More than likely it is this.
