I need to put a search box on the homepage of the intranet where I work. I have tried to frontpage search box, but it searches within the contents of the files and not for the file name. I have looked at a couple of open source search engines but I haven't found anything. I don't need a while web page dedicated to a search, I just want it to be a simple search box within the home page.

Any suggestions?

you haven't told us much about your environment.
what platforms does the intranet run on? how do you store documents? in the intranet? in a file system? do you have rigid security requirements and the search soution has to work with your ACL?
You can try 2 relatively simple solutions. Both have seach APIs and can be integrated with existing intranets.

The first one is Google mini, a search appliance from google that is installed on your premises. http://www.google.com/enterprise/search/mini.html

The second is IBM OmniFind Yahoo edition which is actually free and based on Lucene.
