Microsoft Word 2003 has lost it's scroll bars. How to fix?

Both the horizontal and vertical scroll bars are missing in Word 2003. Also, the "save as" feature does not work. I can go into options and see that the options for the scroll bars are not checked. I check them and click OK but it doesn't work - go back into options and they are still not checked. Other options I can add and remove with no problem.
I have read where installing Adobe Acrobat 7.0 can casue the "save as" issue but this machine has Adobe Acrobat 6.0

Please try Open Microsoft  Word
Go to "Help" in the toolbar; then, click on "Detect and Repair"
Let it repair itself.

If the above not working, make sure Microsoft word is closed,

Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates" in your Windows Explorer (Make sure you can view hidden files; and replace "YOUR_USER_NAME" with your username in the link above)

Delete both "~$Normal.dot" and "Normal.dot" files then, try again.
