VCenter problem creating host profiles

Hi,

We just upgraded to VCetner 4.1 from 2.5.  Everything works fine except for creating of host profiles.
I've attached the error box that comes up.  There were no issues with the upgrade of the VCenter or the database.  The only additional clue that i have is that I now get the following error in the event log on the VCenter machine

A Kerberos Error Message was received:
 on logon session
 Client Time:
 Server Time: 18:0:5.0000 9/10/2010 Z
 Error Code: 0x7  KDC_ERR_S_PRINCIPAL_UNKNOWN
 Extended Error: 0xc0000035 KLIN(0)
 Client Realm:
 Client Name:
 Server Realm: EVERCORE.LOCAL
 Server Name: MSSQLSvc/<server name>.<domain name>.local:1433
 Target Name: MSSQLSvc/<server name>.<domain name>.local:1433@<domain name>.LOCAL
 Error Text:
 File: 9
 Line: e2d
Error Data is in record data.

any insight into this would be great

Thanks

The hosts are on Eval lics with all features enabled.  i'll put lics in as soon as this problem is resolved.  This is definately not a lic issue.

Is vcenter also eval? It does appear to be database auth prob.  Is this the SQL express DB that installs with vCenter?

wolfgordonAuthor Commented:
vcenter is licenced.  the db is on a separate mssql2005 server

It is trying to do domain auth to sql and needs to do native sql auth to acct with dbo privs on vCenter DB. Test odbc data source with acct and if needed run vCenter installer again and reset sql credentials

its setup to use a domain account for db auth.  i tried resetting this both by reinstall and using vpxd

Make sure the time is in sync between:

All domain controllers
the vCenter Server machine
the SQL Database machine

System time can't drift very much or Kerberos authentication will fail

Finally I am back at a computer (instead of a mobile phone) and it is easier to type and to research. I guess I have never tried the domain login for SQL with vCenter - I don't think it used to be even possible.

ok that article was a big help.  i got the kerberos error resolved, kudos to bgoering for that. But as luck may have it, it didnt resolve the host profile creation problem

Do you have any additional information - event log messages on vcenter, sql, or sql error logs? Anything in vmkernel logs (I wouldn't expect anything there but it never hurts to look).

Well I spent 4 hours on the phone with vmware support and its being escalated to engineering. I'll post results as soon as I get them
