Set toner coverage on a print job

Hello experts

I would like to develop an application that will analyse a document, check how much toner its using and reduce it if possible and then print?


The aim ofcourse is cost saving as toner is expensive?
Can that be done? also are we talking to the print drivers or word processing application?
