Has anyone used Grails before? What was your experience/any tips/references for me?

I recently came across Grails which appears to be a Java based RoR implementation of some sort I've got a couple questions plus would be interested in any general insight into using it with a new project.

It says it's written with Groovy, does that mean I'll be writing code in groovy?  Will I be able to do most of the coding in Java?

What general advantages does groovy have over basic servlets or JSP what are the main features?

How easy have you found it to use?

1. It is possible to use Java classes in Grails. You need to create a .jar file for them.

2. Grails is based in Groovy and Groovy is based in Java, so, believe me, it is really easy to learn and use if you are a Java programmer already. (http://groovy.codehaus.org/Documentation)

3. You can't compare Groovy with JSP/Servlets, instead you need to compare Grails with them. You can check this page for a list of Grails features:

4. IMHO it is really easy to use (http://www.grails.org/Tutorials)

I spent a day and went over the IBM tutorials for grails I also installed intellij which has grails support.  All in all it's pretty awesome and powerful I like it quite a bit and minus having to learn groovy/grails framework and pay for an IDE that supports it I don't see a down side way easier than configuring all these tools together without the framework.

Although Intellij isn't free it's pretty awesome even if I don't end up using grails I'm glad I bumped into this IDE.

Ya I tried that as well...  This is personal preference I guess but I had a much better experience with intellij.
