Google Talk client working fine for all users on Friday. Today (Monday Sept 13th) desktop Google talk not working. Users can access it through webmail from Google. Any ideas why this could be occurring?
I have a Watchguard Firebox 550e for a the firewall.
Users however can go to their webmail through their webbrowser and use the google talk there.

what u mean by not working. do you mean failing to connect? failing to open?

Fails to sign in. The web version works which is why it's puzzling that the desktop one would be blocked.
I use the Gateway AV and Intrusion Prevention Services from Watchguard on the firewall too.

is the date/time on your desktop synced with the internet? maybe google talk works like windows.
what o/s are you using? perhaps try syncing to see if that helps http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/tune-17.html
Well this is all users on my network. The desktop Google Talk won't work indicates it's blocked yet the web version that you can use inside webmail works just fine.
Operatings Systems are Windows XP and Windows 7. They all sync their time through group policy.

strange then. you have definitely checked the firewalls so its not blocked or a new policy not introduced that disables chat.
have u tried reinstalling the client on one pc? maybe removed the saved account and add again (assuming u can do that)

Have tried the reinstall. Can't find any policies on the Watchguard that is specifically blocking it either.
I doubt it since it was only the Google Talk desktop client affected.

Can you check if it becomes unavailable again if the website is listed under Watchguard Syatem Manager blocked sites; if yes, then this is the problem.
Please udpate and we can proceed further accordingly.
I worked with the Watchguard support for about an hour last night and we confirmed it's not my Firebox 550e causing the issue. Has to do with the packets being returned by Google according to the testing we did last night.

the reason why you use gtalk, is this so staff can chat to each other or your office allowing chats
if departmental only and if you have office, why not look at communicator. there is a web based version of that as well

last post is not to solve your problem, just suggesting an alternative if your testing with watchguard is proving that you might still have issues with gtalk. maybe need to speak to google
I have a open ticket with Google in regards to this (they are taking their sweet time responding) As we have Google Apps the Google Talk is set to our domain only.

ok. good luck with the google ticket then, hopefully they come back.
they are probably too busy anyways trying to find a new logo in google search
