Not receiving emails from hotmail to Small business server 2003

Hi there,
               We are not receiving emails from hotmail account. From all other accounts and domains  its working. Emails comes directly to our server (SBS2003).

www.mxtoolbox.com
enter your domain name
check SMTP Diagnostics
Check if you get Reverse DNS doesnt match SMTP banner.

If you do:
a) Call your ISP
b) Ask them to set a PTR record in their DNS - for your mail.domain.com -corresponding to your public IP address

Do you maintain your own webfiltering?  Hotmail can be blocked quite easily if it has been activated.  If you do not maintain it, check with the provider who does and ask it to be allowed.  A lot of spam generates from gmail and hotmail so some companies make a policy to block them unless asked to allow.

We haven't made any changes to our mx records. I am getting Reverse DNS doesn't match SMTP Banner when I test from site mxtoolbox.com The hotmail issue started to happen from last week. It has been fine for years without changing anything. Other thing we can receive emails from hotmail if they reply to us. But if you send new email from hotmail its not coming. There is no spam filter or anything like that. Is there anything I can do except calling isp and telling them to create a PTR records in their DNS.

ah , so if you send a mail to a hotmail address and reply, you recieve it fine, but when you create one from scratch it doesnt?

that would indicate that they mail address has changed. Stupid question but just to confirm.. the email addresses are identical when you reply in hotmail or create a new mail?

Well somehow its working now. Before any new emails send from hotmail to our company were bouncing back to hotmail. I will just leave it for now and if it doesn't work then will dig into it.

NO it started to work without adding PTR.  Its weird that only with hotmail we had  this issue. This is the second time it happened. First time it happened once but when i tested it worked. I don't know whether we still need to do PTR thing on ISP

its advisable that you set the PTR record with your ISP. You will have to call them.
