uninstall an exchange 2007 server
Hi,
I've got an exchange 2007 setup which was using doubletake to do live replication. I have 2 exchange severs, an active and a passive.
exchange01 - Active
exchange02 - passive
exchange01 does everything and functions as though it is the only exchange server in the organisation. exchange02 has all the exchange services stopped and set to manual, so it's listed in the organisation but just sits there dormant until such a time when the doubletake software fails exchange over to it, this process starts up the services and does a clever DNS trick to make the passive box active.
Anyway, we no longer use doubletake and I want to remove exchange from exchange02. II want to avoid disrupting exchange01 so my question is...will uninstalling exchange 2007 on exchange02 break exchange01 in any way?
I'd liken it to removing a DC from a domain, the question 'is this the last domain controller in the domain', i'd answer no just uninstall from this server but leave the rest of the domain as it is.
There's no huge rush to do this but I don't want any unexpected suprises!
Thanks in advanc
Chris

thanks for the sanity check :-)
ok good. now you have to check the public folder replication as well as mailbox db properties on 01 to make sure that it is not replicating to / referencing public folders on 02.

thanks for your reply. I wasn't entirely sure how the points system worked, I've upped it to 500 now.
I've removed exchange now, I had to do some tinkering due to the doubletake configuration but nothing too scary.
Steps Taken:
1. used add/remove to remove all exchange roles from exchange02, the mailbox role gave an error relating to public folders.
2. found that the info store service wasn't running, tried to start it but couldn't. Turned out to be my antivirus software AVG preventing this. I uninstalled the email server component of AVG and was able to start the info store service.
3. used the exch mgmt gui to remove all the mailbox db's and storage groups. the storage group containing the public folder wouldn't go.
4. the public folder wasn't in use so I used adsi edit.msc to delete it. Went back into exch mgmt gui and was able to remove the pf db and the storage group.
5. back to add/remove programs and successfully removed the mailbox server role and management tools.
