Problem installing iTunes on Windows 7

Hi

I am trying to install iTunes 10 on a newly installed version of Windows 7.  However when I run the installer I get..

'the installer encountered errors before itunes could be configured'

and then it closes

Any ideas how I can solve this?

Right click on the installer program and Run as Administrator. Even though you are probably the administrator, UAC (User Account Control) requires this action. .... Thinkpads_User

I tried that and now I'm getting

Windows cannot find the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropraite permissions to access the item
Make sure you downloaded iTunes to a folder of your own before trying to install. Redownload iTunes to see if you can try this again. Make sure the userid in Windows 7 is a member of the administrators groups and that you again use the Run as Administrator option.

If none of this works, temporarily disable UAC and install. Then go back and restore UAC. You should not have to do this. It is really a last resort. .... Thinkpads_User
How do I disable UAC?
Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change User Account Control Settings.

... Thinkpad_User
When I click on Change User Account Control Settings the window briefly flashes but nothing is opened
You must be a member of the Administrators group to change UAC. Are you the Administrator?

If yes, something else is wrong with your Windows setup.

If no, you need to become the Administrator to change this setting. ... Thinkpads_User
Yes I am the administrator.  I've installed many other programs without problem.  Would it make a difference if I installed iTunes from a cd?
You could try, but it should no make any difference. Also you shoul resolve your UAC issue as what you see is wrong.

Also, did you download iTunes from a non-Apple site, and might it have a virus?  ... Thinkapds_User
The download was from Apple

What I don't understand is that I can run any other setup.exe type installation from the exactly the same folder and the app installs without problem.  Why is it only the iTunes installer that doesn't work.  Could there be another underlying issue here?
