Office Communicator 2007, Only text working.

We just installed Office communicator 2007 server

and are testing clients.

Only the text is coming through. When we make a video or audio call it is disconnected shorty after.  Any suggestions? Nothing shown on firewall log.....

Need some more info about your environment.  For external access, you need an Access Edge and A/V Edge role (at a minimum).  You'll need to specify the port range used for audio/video in the edge server as part of that.

You will only be able to have A/V conversations with federated contacts in OCS (not available with PIC contacts because they use a different mechanism for those conversations and audio/video is really more of a client-specific function and does not fall within SIP).

If you see the conversation work for a second or two (meaning the far side sees the near side's video for a second or two), then you probably have some firewall issues or you are unable to negotiate session security between endpoints (OCS, by default, requires all communications to be encrypted).
