Resources is not a member of My

I have a VB 2010 WinForm app. Often when I add a picture to a Button, for example, the IDE freezes. This happened quite often actually - when adding pictures to the Resource file. Unfortunately, the last time it froze - after forcing it closed and reopening Visual Studio as usual - I now get the following error message (40 times - once for each graphic used in the app):

'Resources' is not a member of 'My'

When I double click on any of those 40 errors, it takes me to the Designer file for the form (for example, frmMain.Designer.vb) to a line such as this one:

Global.RadioTracker.My.Resources.Resources.DataContainer_MoveLastHS

("RadioTracker" is the name of the application, and "DataContainer_MoveLastHS" is the name of a PNG file). It then underlines Global.RadioTracker.My.Resources.Resources with a squiggly blue line to indicate there is a problem with that.
Also, if I type My and then hit the period so that Intellisense kicks in, I can see all everything except the Resources Namespace (I can't remember, but I think it should be there?)

I've tried deleting the \My Project\Resources.resx file, and have even tried restoring not just that file but all resource files (for all forms) from a backup but still not working. Any ideas?

Hi check  if this helps..

The resources.resx file was there, but it must have become corrupted in some fashion.

Closed the project.
Deleted the file project_path/My Project/Resources.resx
restarted the project
re-added all the resources
