SQL Server full-text search website integration

Hi Experts,

Our company is evaluating if it's possible to implement full text search on our website within certain time frame. The requirements are that search has to be performed on the database tables (6-8 tables) and files (pdf, ppt, doc; 4-5 Gb).

Some tech specs:
asp.net / framework 3.5
c#
sql server 2005
windows 2008 / IIS7

My question is how long does it usually take to implement? I know it's hard to answer precisely but +/- a week. I am getting very different estimates from contractors and not sure who to believe.

Thanks!

Believe the one you trust and make sure you get a document fully describing what they are going to do.

First of all Full-Text Search as implemented on SQL Server does not search files, but rather file types.  So if you have saved the binary data in the database then yes, you can use Full-Text Search.  I would guess at most and depending on the number of rows involved it would take me to implement Full-Text search on the database between 4-6 hours.  That does not include any time needed for application development.
