Is there anyway to create a hyperlink that would allow me to create a new document (from a template) in a document library within Sharepoint?

I'd like to have an eyecatching image in a "common" are of the same Sharepoint site which would remove the need to click "Document Library > New" - I know its only for the sake of one click, but I feel the process is a little......clunky, and I'd like to try and streamline it where possible.

If it helps, the Name of the library is Purchase Requisition, its URL here is: http://intranet/purchasing/Purchase%20Requisition and the template is preq_.xls

Please let me know :D
