indesign insert picture

what is the good way to insert picture to indesign book do i need to convert piccture from color to greyscale first,  or do I need to resize image or use in design to resize it

For color/grayscale you should convert your photo before placing. Indesign does not have built-in way of converting some pictures other than printing the whole document in grayscale. You can try some plugins like color2gray that will do some color conversions in indesign (http://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/indesign-downloads/color2gray/) but if you have Photoshop better to do it yourself.

As for resizing, consider two things. 1) if you stretch/zoom an image you will be decreasing it's printed resolution (dpi). 2) you should decrease the file size of the linked image by resizing it in Photoshop or other to a size that is closer to what you need. Especially if you have really big pictures going imto much smaller holes  

We use the same photos in many publications so create a handful of color&size combinations and choose the one that's te closest fit (without being too small)

when i resize with photo shop to small picture can i set resolution  such as i capture screen and put in photo shop when I resize can I change resolution form 300 to 72

That's more of a Photoshop question, but you can set both the image size and the resolution (300 to 72) of the image in Photoshop.
