I would probably start with getting version 10 out of the box and using it. The updates to 11 are fairly minor - every version since the initial release has touted the same basic improvements: more accurate, faster, etc. It is a mature product already and in my experience people always buy it because they "think" it will save them a lot of time, but unless your job involves a fair amount of word processing from notes (Doctors, Lawyers, and such (appologies to willie nelson)).  It can also be quite useful for the disabled. It may not have even been worth purchasing version 10 - especially if you haven't been compelled to get it out of the box yet.
Play with 10, go through the initial tutorial and spend some time "training" it, and see what you think. The overall experience will not be that remarkably different with 11.

Decided to stick with version 10 and not to upgrade to version 11 at this time.
