Replication between 2003 sp2 and 2008R2

I'm working on migrating a file server on a 2003 sp2.   Is there a way to set up a replication between this and a 2008R2? I tried setting up a replication group from the 2008 server, but it says that DFS Replication service is not installed - on the 2003 server.  DFS is installed on that server.  I've read a bunch of things about compatibility, but no clear way to make this work.  Experts please help.  Thanks.

Is your 2003 server R2? If it is you should be able to use DFS-R for replication. You can't use the older FRS to replicate to Windows 2008. You can use Robocopy to copy everything over to the new server.

I normally use

robocopy source destination /MIR /CREATE

and then

robocopy source destination /MIR

to sync up the directory structures. You can run it multiple times, and it only copies over files that have changed, so you can do an initial mirror, and then a final mirror just before you're ready to cut over.

It's SP2.  Robocopy will work just fine for what I want to do.  Thanks.
