SQL 2008 fails to install because this service is missing, or registry key is not found.  The system had a manual cleanup of the registry to delete keys pointing to a dead SQL installation.  Do not want to restore registry.  Can someone tell me where this key should be and post a sample so I can edit and see if it will go?

Are you trying to first time or repairing installation?

Try to uninstall sql server and then try to install again.

if you want to install only particular component and sql server is already installed. go to add remove program and click change to add missing component.

MSSQLServerADHelper100 will be in many places in the registry and its not easy to make changes. so the best way is to reinstall/Repair.

Made the call to Microsoft, and did a manual cleanup of all installation.  Reinstall went to the same point and died.  TS found that active directory is causing the problem as the SQL cluster being installed is supposed to be taking the name of the old SQL server.  Old SQL server was renamed, but AD did not update and names are all messed up.  Old server also cannot log into domain.  Will update staus on another question posted a little while ago, but it appears this is not a SQL or MSI issue.

Closing this request as it turns out the problem was only reflected in the SQL installation. AD problems with object names is what was causing the problem.  Once conflicting named server was removed and metabase cleanup done SQL installed normally.
