Print Spooler Status Check and Start
I have no idea about scripting, so below is my problem.
SBS 2008 print spooler crashes on a random basis. Doing a lot of trouble shooting but no luck yet. Replaced Drivers but no luck. Network has several flavors of printers HP, Sharp, Dell etc. Finally we decided that this problem might be caused by the HP universal print driver. This is a domain env with 30 users. When the server print spooler crashes you know what happens, my phone rings off the hook and I have to restart the service. Below is a list of request and any help will be greatly admired.
1. What else other than drivers can be causing this issue. If drivers do you think it is the HP universal Drivers.
2. While I am trying to figure out the issue, I need a simple band aid solution. Can one of the smart scripters kindly help with a script which does the following.
If Print Spooler service event gets generated in the Event Viewer
Then initiate status check of the Spooler service.
If Spooler not running
Restart Spooler service
Otherwise a script which can be scheduled to run every 15 mins checking the status of the spooler service and if service stopped then start. Please help.

Change the print processor on the printers serviced by the HP universal print driver to winprint. It is likely set to hpzpps10 or something like that.

Thank you for the response. I just updated the printers on the universal driver to winprint. I will let you know if the spooler crashes tomorrow.

So far the spooler did not crash. Looking at the Evntvwr its crashing on a random basis and it can go without crashing for a week. So i will keep you updated. Thank you again for the help.
Glad to hear its worked so far. Hopefully it stays up.
